Polymer concrete ducts. Polymer concrete is a particularly resistant composite material, in which the binder phase, for which cement is used in traditional concrete, is replaced with polymers. Specifically, the material used for the production of linear drainage channels is a composite material produced by mixing sands with different grain sizes and a variety of inert materials of mineral origin, necessary for the filling of the interstices, with binding agents, i.e. polymers, which increase the material?s performance in terms of hardness, strength, lightness and impermeability.
The improved physical properties of the resulting concrete also allow producing items of lower weights and sizes, thanks to the inclusion of lightening elements and to the reduction of thickness; they also allow obtaining, directly from the moulding process, constructive details such as coupling elements, curvatures and slopes. The base resin used is polyester resin; this gives the polymer concrete certain special properties, such as improved resistance against the majority of acids and solvents.
Various additives are then added to the mixture, which have the function of increasing resistance to fire or thermal shocks, or reducing the coefficient of thermal expansion, as well as eliminating electrical conductivity.
